Performance Coach

Doug Leighton

Doug Leighton is a Performance Specialist for Athlete Performance Enhancement Center (APEC). Leighton first started coaching as a senior in high school and has experience in training school systems, collegiate teams, professional athletes, club soccer, group fitness, individual fitness, tactical training, adaptive athlete training, and consulting. While completing his Masters in Kinesiology at the University of Texas at Tyler, Leighton was coaching at APEC, a strength and conditioning coach at UTTyler, and was a trainer for the fitness center at the university leading fitness classes and personal training clients.

 

Coach Leighton’s current role is coaching all levels and types of athletes at APEC from kindergarten age to professional level, adult fitness, adaptive training, and is outsourced to team service training for Whitehouse ISD and FC Dallas East Texas. Leighton is also the social media coordinator for APEC developing the brand through the various social media platforms.

 

Team APEC has been a part of developing over 20 athletes that trained in the APEC system in grade school, and continued all the way to the professional ranks including names like Patrick Mahomes, Dylan Cantrell, and AJ minter. Doug and this team are currently supporting over 70 athletes in the NFL and MLB alone.

Leighton grew up in Houston playing many sports and was very active growing up. He spent the most time playing soccer from the age 4 up to playing for the men’s soccer team for the University of Texas at Tyler. Leighton also has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and played football, basketball, and swam competitively growing up.
